Retford: Rampton patient racially abused and said he would kill nursing assistant

A patient at Rampton Hospital in Retford has pleaded guilty to racially abusing a nursing assistant.

Jeffrey Barber, 38, admitted the charge when he appeared via video link at Worksop Magistrate’s Court.

The court heard that Barber became racially abusive and threatening towards Jan Ashe after being moved to a sedation room.

He also punched and kicked the inside of the door and said he would kill Ashe when he got out.

Defending, Mr Andrew Bevan said: “He had no intention of carrying out any of the threats he made.”

Barber was fined £50 and ordered to pay £50 compensation and £20 victim surcharge.
