As the theatre approaches its 74th season of plays, the focus has turned to not so much what makes it tick as who.

“The Theatre could not operate without its 800-plus members,” said committee member Stephen Walker.

“They are the core audience who give the theatre financial stability and who fill more than two-thirds of the seats at each production.”

“Membership for 2014-2015 is already open, and a joining evening is taking place on Friday, 5th September from 7pm.”

“Anyone interested in becoming a member can visit the theatre on Wharf Road and discover the benefits of membership. “

“These include priority booking and a saving of 20 per cent on ticket prices.”

“Joining Evening is a great social occasion with a full bar and a free entertainment.”

Stephen continued: “The key people who make Retford Little Theatre tick are the volunteers”

“More than 70 of these are needed for the week of every production – and that doesn’t include the casts of the plays, the backstage crews or the technical teams.”

“The magnificent 70 are those who staff the box office, and the coffee and licensed bars, and those who look after the audience in the front of house areas.”

“Any member of the theatre who is willing to train to take on one or more of these roles is welcomed with open arms.”

To demonstrate what it’s all about, there will be an Open Evening on Friday, 12th September.

Experienced theatre staff will be on hand to explain all the ins and outs of the various volunteer opportunities.

For members who want to play an even more active part, the producers of the new season’s plays will be on hand to talk about their requirements in terms of cast members and backstage crew.

Representatives of the technical team will also be very happy to explain what’s involved in the sound and stage lighting departments,” said Stephen.

“Retford Little Theatre has always been a community theatre and all members of the community are welcome.”

“All that’s needed is a sense of commitment, and in return there is a guarantee of pleasure and satisfaction.”

The theatre’s next production is All In Good Time from 26th September to 4th October. For tickets, call the box office on 01777 702002.
