A Retford man has pleaded guilty to claiming almost £3,000 in benefits that he was not entitled to.

Gareth Trenham, 33, of Hallcroft Road in Retford, admitted two counts of benefit fraud at Worksop Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that for two periods between August and October of 2013, Trenham had been claiming, at various times, Jobseekers Allowance, housing benefit and Council Tax benefit, despite being in full-time employment.

Defending, Mr David Verity said Trenham was very sorry for what he had done and that the period of dishonesty had only been a relatively short time.

Trenham was fined £75 and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
