On Friday (19th September) you can try your ear at bat detecting with the Notts Bat Group.

This is the first event of a bat-themed bonanza .

The Rural Learning Centre will have plenty of bat-related activities this Saturday and Sunday (20th and 21st September)plus information to share on how you can help local bats and how to create a bat box for your garden.

Erin McDaid of Notts Wildlife Trust said: “Bats are really amazing creatures and we find that more and more people want to learn about them.”

“Our bat-themed events are always popular and Idle Valley is a great place to start for anyone wanting to discover more about the county’s bats.”

Your chances of seeing bats at the Idle Valley are pretty good as the reserve is home to three varieties of England’s smallest and most common bat, the pipistrelle, as well as one of the UK’s largest, the noctule bat.

The weekend event is free to attend and no booking is required.

However, booking is required for the bat walk, for which there is a charge of £5 for adults and £3 for children.
