Retford: Gainsborough mother admites to shoplifting

A mother has admitted shoplifting clothing for women and children.

Shantelle Smith, of Burton Street, Gainsborough admitted three charges of theft from Retford on 7th March and to breaching a conditional discharge.

Worksop Magistrates’ Court heard Smith, 33, and her partner were experiencing substantial financial difficulties when she carried out the thefts.

She has three children and is pregnant with her fourth.

In a police interview, Smith told officers that some of the children’s clothes would be used and that she planned to sell the others.

Smith will be sentenced on 3rd April.
