Retford: Fun day for brave William

The family of a brave Retford child are hosting a community fun day to raise vitals funds for therapy.

Four-year-old William Stones suffered a cardiac arrest three years ago, and was unable to move, see or hear for six months.

Basic abilities such as walking, talking and eating became impossible for William, and he has required expensive specialist therapy.

Defying doctors’ predictions, William has gradually gained control of his body, with walking freely the ultimate aim.

His father David said: “He is doing amazingly well, and the therapy seems to be making significant progress - he recently learned to walk with a frame over short distances.”

““We want to put on a great day for the community, and also raise money and awareness for William.”

The day, held in conjunction with Outklass Fitness on Sunday 30th June at The Core Centre in East Drayton, will feature traditional summer fayre activities alongside sporting demonstrations, a 5km race and fun run.

A charity auction will be held for prizes including helicopter rides and Silverstone track days, with staff from George Lucas’ Garrison UK production team supporting the event in full Star Wars costume.

The fun day runs from 10am-4pm and costs £2 entry.
