Retford councillor appointed in housing role

A RETFORD councillor has been appointed as Bassetlaw Council’s portfolio holder for housing.

Coun Alan Chambers, who represents east Retford west, will fill the position left by Coun Alan Rhodes who resigned on New year’s Eve.

Coun Chambers said: “I am very excited about taking on the housing portfolio and building on the excellent work of my predecessor Alan Rhodes.”

“When I was elected as a councillor I wanted to be accessible and make a real difference for my ward.”

“I now have the opportunity to do that across the whole of the district and I am looking forward to working with both A1 Housing and the council’s housing teams.”

Bassetlaw Council leader Coun Simon Greaves said Coun Chambers will have a key role.

“I am delighted that Alan has accepted the housing portfolio and has taken up his cabinet post,” he said.

“Over the coming weeks will be working on shaping the budget for the next two years and the new housing portfolio holder, along with the cabinet will have a key role to play in this process.”
