Retford cash boost for wildlife charity

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust received a donation of just over £120 from the Retford Local Group.

The money will go towards the charity’s Lost Woodland Appeal, which aims to raise £15,000 in order to release funding of £65,000 to buy an area of woodland that was once part of Treswell Wood.

The Retford group, an independent wildlife interest group affiliated with the Notts Wildlife Trust, are determined to raise as much money as possible for the cause.

They recently held a coffee morning as part of a series of activities including appeal biscuits, market stalls and a sponsored bike ride.

Notts Wildlife trust publicity officer Di Fisher said: “With all the recent media coverage about the possible disastrous effects of ash dieback disease, it’s as important as ever to protect our reserves and all the wildlife that thrive and depend on them.”

“We welcome all donations, ideas and practical help with our fund-raising and conservation work from individuals, groups and local businesses - one of our volunteers is organising a blues gig in March next year; the response from local people has been really positive - we need to keep up momentum till we’ve reached that essential £15,000 target!”
