“The distance is approximately 40 miles and the ride is in order to raise awareness about extreme gas extraction in the county,” said a group spokesman.

“Fracking is something not many people have heard about and if they have, aren’t very aware about specific local details.

“So this is a perfect opportunity for anyone with a bike to get involved, without the pressure of getting heavily involved with campaign work.”

The ride will end at the Daneshill Forest camp site that has been set up across the road from where DART Energy are due to begin exploratory drilling shortly.

Riders are then welcome to camp overnight or take the train back from Retford station, which is 20-minute cycle ride away from camp.

For those wanting to camp, there will be a driver who can transport sleeping bags and tents if you are unable.
