Residents to report dog mess
Over the past few years the local authority has stepped up high visibility patrols, issued on the spot fines, distributed leaflets, put posters and signs up, been into schools to educate youngsters and provided free dog bags.
But the problem is still blighting the community and the council is urging residents to report offenders.
Once an offence is reported, the council will patrol the area and issue on the spot fines.
Coun Dennis Kelly, Bolsover Council’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “This problem costs us, and ultimately you the taxpayer thousands of pounds every year, so if we can work together to rid the district of this problem then this money can be spent on other services for your benefit.”
He added: “We understand that it is just a minority of irresponsible dog owners who do not pick up after their dog, but that spoils it for the responsible ones and for everyone else.”
“We would like to thank local residents who have already given us information on this problem and are taking pride in their local area, so, if you see someone not picking up after their dog or know of a problem area, then report it to us now.”
