In last week’s edition of the Worksop Guardian our illustrious MP John Mann attacked County Councillor Ian Campbell for resigning from the Labour Party but still retaining his seat on both the district and county councils without putting himself up for election as an independent councillor.
While I totally agree that councillors and even MPs should put themselves up for re-election if they change their political allegiance at any time during their term of office, if not they are cheating the electorate that elected them.
But why I ask has MP John mann attacked Ian Campbell, is it because he has left the Labour Party to be an independent? Looking at his record on defections in both Bassetlaw and Westminster he did not condemn the independent DC Challinor when he defected to Labour mid term and did not condemn the Conservative MP Quentin Davies who did the same in the last parliament.
It seams that he is saying that it’s okay to defect to Labour, but if anybody defects from Labour it is wrong. Is he saying don’t do as I do but do as I say? Double standards from our MP or what John. Would you please like to explain to the electorate in Bassetlaw?
