Reader letter: Why are M1 roadworks taking so long?

Why aren’t we getting a proper solution to the problems of traffic congestion?

If it were ‘down south’, we’d be getting an extra lane, not a cheap substitute by just converting the hard shoulder and putting a few gantries in.

Why do miles and miles of motorway have to have a permanent 50mph limit slapped on them when hardly anyone ever seems to be doing anything between Junctions 28 and 31?

I often use the M1 from Junction 31 to 33 and I’ve never seen anyone doing anything since the 50mph limit was imposed ages ago.
