READER LETTER: We will remember those who gave lives

I am a former member of the regular Army (Queen’s Royal Lancers) and now serve with the Royal Yeomanry Army Reserve in Carlton, Nottingham, and originally from Shirebrook.

As the nation becomes more expectant and ever greedier,

People living through social media.

Slow down and take time to reflect,

Take a step back and show respect.

It’s the time of the year as a nation we remember,

Lest we forget them on this Sunday in November.

Take a moment’s reflection as you wear your poppy with pride,

The extremes soldiers went to and how so many died.

As we take for granted this modern way of life,

Take a moment to remember the troops who gave their lives.

World War One to World War Two,

The unbearable hell our troops went through.

Modern-day wars many more have died for the cause,

A minute’s silence and put everything on pause.

We will remember them.
