Ranskill set for historic day

The date of Saturday, August 31st,will be an historic one for the village of Ranskill as on that day, the village park will be re-named Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Park and registered with the Fields in Trust - thus ensuring its future as a recreation ground is guaranteed for ever.

And Ranskill Parish Council is organising a special Field Day to mark this occasion.

“The council decided to go for Fields in Trust status to protect the park for future generations,” said council clerk Dave McAra.

“It means there can be no building on the park at any time in the future, although, thanks to grant funding from WREN and the Nottinghamshire County Council Local Improvement Scheme, totalling almost £30,000 and which the parish council is very grateful for, new play equipment was installed on the park earlier this year.”

“Also, a special clause has been written into the deeds which would allow the building of a village hall or community Centre at the east end of the park should the funding become available.”

To mark the occasion of the park attaining its new name and status, a new notice board will be erected with the wording Ranskill Village Park and QEII Diamond Jubilee 1952-2012 and a Diamond Jubilee plaque will also be placed in the park.

“The village park is something we can all be proud of and we have now protected it in perpetuity,” continued Mr McAra.

“Earlier this year the parish council set up a special working group to plan the Field Day and we hope everyone will turn out to join in the celebrations.”

“There will be childrens’ sports, nature displays, food demonstrations, a vintage bus, outdoor leisure displays, a display by the Chesterfield Canal Trust, the British Bee Keeping Association with honey and wax sales, a WI Toy Swap stall, Tuxford Mill, a Retro Citroen Coffee Van plus lots more.”

The event will be opened by local Bassetlaw district councillor Mike Gray.
