Ranskill nursery teaching Spanish to children

CHILDREN in Ranskill have been showing that you are never too young to learn a foreign language.

Youngsters at Ranskill Nursery School have been enjoying Spanish lessons this term.

Erika Tasker, who lives in Ranskill and is originally from Venezuela, has been teaching the children basic Spanish since October in short fortnightly sessions on a Wednesday morning.

Through singing along to songs in Spanish they have learned to say hello and goodbye and also picked up the words for colours and parts of the body.

Mrs Tasker, 39, who also teaches Spanish to schoolchildren and adults and runs after-school clubs at Misson and Clarborough, said: “The children at nursery really enjoy singing along and dancing.”

“They like getting the Spanish stickers when they have done well in a lesson. I speak to my young children in Spanish at home and it seems to help them pick up the language.”

The £500,000 nursery can accommodate up to 30 children, aged two to four.

The building has a big area for the children and other facilities. A climbing frame, shelter and slide is the centrepiece of a large soft-floored outdoor play area and there is also a large grassed play area, complete with raised beds and storage shed.
