This year’s Ranskill and Torworth Village and Scarecrow Festival takes place on 8th June.

Organisers are going all out to beat their record year from two years ago when 100 scarecrows were on display around the two villages.

“The scarecrows took a bit of a back seat last year when a special festival was held to mark the Queen’s Jubilee, but this year they will be back with a bang,” said festival chairman Dave Hill.

“Two years ago we had 110 entries and we are going all out to break that record in 2013,” he added.

The committee have made a challenge to residents of surrounding villages by challenging them to enter one or more scarecrows for the festival.

“If you think you can make a better scarecrow than the residents of Ranskill and Torworth, then make one – and we’ll find somewhere in the villages to display it and include it in the judging,” said Dave.

For anyone who would like help making a scarecrow then a special session is being organised at Maltkiln Farm, Low Street, Torworth on Monday 3rd June from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

A basic body will be available for £1 and the straw will be free.

During the festival there will be a host of other attractions on the school field at Ranskill Primary on Cherry Tree Walk, including craft stalls, bands, dancing displays, pony rides, dog agility displays, a model railway exhibition and a fancy dress competition.

The festival will be finished with the annual picnic in the park. Tickets are £5 and music will be provided by the comedy skiffle group Kick ‘n’ Rush and Pure Heaven Disco.
