Ramsden Primary School receives grant for wildlife

The cash boost from the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and EDF Energy will help inspire children about the natural world and protect the wildlife on their doorstep.

The school in Carlton-in-Lindrick has been selected to receive one of the 20 ‘Wildlife on Your Doorstep Grants’.

Head teacher, Christopher Wilson, said: “We are just thrilled to receive the grant from the Trust and EDF Energy.”

“We are lucky enough to have an established woodland on our school grounds with classroom and bird hide already built, but sadly neglected due to lack of resources.”

“The money will mean we can revive our outdoor facilities and really use the woodland for true outdoor learning.”

“The whole school, from reception through to year six will be able to learn about nature and science in a most inspirational environment.”

“The EDF grant has actually been the catalyst for our plan to create and build an eco-classroom, complete with living roof – we think we may be one of the first schools to achieve this in the country.”

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust works with families and schools to inspire people of all ages about the wonders of the natural world. They aim to provide all groups with a range of activities which are enjoyable, memorable and bring them closer to the natural environment at a time when access is otherwise at an all time low.
