Radio treat for oldie composer

Composer John Mackfall will be getting an extra special birthday present on Sunday when his music is played on Radio 2.

Requiem for a Soldier will be played between 8.30am and 9am on the Aled Jones show on the day Mr Mackfall turns 63.

The song was chosen as one of four winners in a national competition for Oldie Composers.

Mr Mackfall, of Gringley Road, Misterton, was treated to a day at the BBC’s London studios where he met Aled, along with Sir Terry Wogan and actor Anthony Head.

The four winning songs are now competing to get the most iTunes downloads. Proceeds are going to the Barnardo’s charity.

Mr Mackfall said: “It was great to go to the studios. For the past four weeks my song has been leading the downloads.”

Requiem for a Soldier is available to download at www.oldiecomposers.com.
