Pupils cycle 157 miles for dementia

A FORMER coal miner who worked at Harworth Colliery from the age of 14 has died from ‘black lung disease’ at the age of 86, an inquest heard.

Thomas Farnworth, from The Green, in Harworth, passed away at Bassetlaw Hospital on 11th June.

The hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday heard how Mr Farnworth had spent ‘many years underground’. It concluded a combination of bronchopneumonia and lung cancer contributed to his death, as well as heart disease and coal workers pneumoconiosis.

Deputy Coroner for Notts Heidi Conner said: “I’m satisfied there is sufficient evidence linked with employment history.”
