£500 pledged for play equipment

COMMunity improvements were high on the agenda at Harworth and Bircotes Town Council’s September meeting on Monday night.

A total of £500 was pledged towards subsidising entry costs for an inflatable pinball game for youngsters to use on the recreation ground during October half-term.

Couns June Evans, David Challinor and Frank Hart donated £100, Harworth Town Council pledged £100 and a further £100 was given by Harworth Tenants and Residents Association.

Coun Challinor said it would prove to be an excellent facility the town.

“The initial cost to use the facility is £7.50 which will mount up for many parents,” he said.

“We can use this money towards subsidising the costs, which will really help out families.”

Clerk Steve Bowman said cleaning work to the war memorial and stone monument were due to begin this week.

Hanging baskets were also up for discussion, with councillors voting to set up a working party to improve the floral features for next year.

Chairman Coun June Evans said she would like to see bigger baskets hanging in the town.

“The current ones are too tiny and don’t make much of an impact,” she said.

Mr Bowman closed the meeting by highlighting the Doncaster Darts Open at Harworth and Bircotes Town Hall on 13th November this year – offering contestants a £1,000 prize.

The date for the next meeting was set on 17th October at 6.45pm.
