Prison threat for door slam man

Kirk Lambert, 20, of Cherry Grove, Ladybrook, admitted causing the damage to a door at his own address and was given a community order on November 20 last year which included a 20 day rehabilitation activity requirement and 80 hours of unpaid work.

But Lambert failed to keep three appointments and was ‘unacceptably absent’ from the work programme on 18 occasions, the court was told.

James Whyley, mitigating, said: “On the last occasion he was clearly warned.

“I can fully understand the court’s frustration with someone who seemingly doesn’t understand his obligation to do his punishment. He is clearly someone who isn’t getting the message.”

However, he told the court Lambert had ‘a long history of problems in his life.’

He said Lambert had spent many years in care and, in his own words, had been ‘passed from pillar to post.’

He told the court Lambert had ‘potentially been diagnosed with cancer’ and had mental health issues.

He had recently been released from prison and had been taking medication for ADHD.

The court heard the damage had been caused on September 15 last year when he slammed a door and cracked a glass pane, following an argument with his partner.

Mr Whyley described him as ‘a very vulnerable man’ who committed a ‘very, very low level offence’ which could potentially lead to prison.

Magistrates revoked the original order and re-sentenced him to four weeks, suspended for six months, with no additional conditions.
