Prestigious prize for Retford youngster and her dog at Crufts

Jessica Smith from Retford with Sadie a Parson Russell Terrier, which was the Best of Breed winner today (Thursday 09.03.17), the first day of Crufts 2017, at the NEC Birmingham.

Crufts is the world's greatest dog show and this year will see around 22,000 healthy, happy dogs competing for the coveted 'Best in Show' title as well as taking part in the many other competitions that take place at the show, from Agility and Flyball to the hero dog competition Eukanuba Friends for Life and Scruffts Family Crossbreed of the Year. Crufts 2017 runs from the 9th to the 12th March at the NEC, Birmingham.

Crufts is the perfect opportunity for dog lovers meet around 200 breeds of dog, find out how to go about getting a dog, and to find out about activities and competitions they can get involved in with their own dog.

One of 22,000 happy, healthy dogs at Birmingham’s NEC for the world’s largest dog show, Tease made sure to take a starring role alongside owner Jessica Smith, walking away with the Best of Breed award.

Presented by the Kennel Club, this year’s Crufts marked the 126th edition of the show, which attracts dogs and owners from all over the world as well as thousands of visitors over the course of the four days.

And after enjoying her own moment in the spotlight, Jessica could not be more delighted with Sadie’s performance in the West Midlands.

“It’s an incredible feeling to win, I’m so happy,” she said.

“Sadie is just nuts - she’s so bouncy and happy. She gets up to all sorts, mostly running round playing, running, walking and chasing things.”

Another victorious contestant was Michaella Dunhill-Hall, 17, a student at Confetti College, whose dog Dragon was named Best of Breed in the Shiba Inu.

The Retford teenager lavished praise on her companion, and added the Crufts experience this year had been one to savour.

“It feels great, really fantastic to win,” she said.

“Dragon is a crazy dog but he really has a heart of gold. He’s a beautiful dog to live with but he can be a handful.”

“We’ve got two more days and it’s been a really great Crufts.”
