Positive thinking for Sheffield Steelers' cool Swede

At 40, he has been around long enough to know that you should look forward in pro sport, not back.

Stromberg played his first game for Sheffield on January 8.

Eight days later, he had to sit out against Nottingham Panthers.

Since then he has been restored to the injury-hit side although his job security wasn’t aided by the hiring of Ryan Hayes.

However, he scored his first goal for Sheffield, midweek, and hopes to improve on his points tally in Saturday’s clash with leaders Cardiff Devils.

Asked about being dropped, he said: “I don’t care about that now. I hope I can play on Saturday.

“I am looking forward now, I want to play the next game so I don’t think backwards.”

He said it felt great to score against Fife in the Challenge Cup. And he said the UK style of hockey was more offensive than what he was used to in Scandinavia, although he thinks there’s work to do defensively.

Steelers conceded five out of seven goals to Devils’ special teams last week.

And Stromberg warned: “We can’t take so many penalties against them. They are the best Power Play so we have to play disciplined and have to play good in the defensive zone and score a couple of goals on the PP or five-on-five.”
