While the elections are some time away, the elections team in Bassetlaw is working hard to ensure that you are able to stay safe while casting your vote.

There are a number of ways to have your say in the elections – you can vote in a polling station, by post, or by appointing someone you trust to vote on your behalf, which is known as a proxy vote.

Local elections are due to take place on May 6 this year

In addition to the county council and PCC elections, a number of other elections are taking place in Bassetlaw.

These include Tuxford & Trent Ward District Council by-election, South Leverton Parish Council by-election and Neighbourhood Plan referendums for Blyth, Everton, Hodsock and Langold, Rampton and Woodbeck, and Walkeringham.

There is also a vacancy for the Ranskill ward seat on Bassetlaw District Council and the by-election for this could also take place on May 6.

More information about this is here.

Neil Taylor, returning officer for the district council said: “We understand that people may be worried about the voting process this year amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

“If you choose to vote in person, you can expect to find many of the measures you’ve become used to in shops and banks over recent months, such as hand sanitiser, social distancing signs and face masks.

“But you also have the option to vote by post or by proxy and local democracy remains extremely important as it gives people the opportunity to have their say on a range of local issues that affect their daily lives.”

If you are not registered to vote, you can do so online here.
