Gainsborough Town Council resurrect planning group

GAINSBOROUGH Town Council has brought back its planning committee, after suspending all committees last May.

All business is currently discussed at full council meetings once a month, until a governance review is complete and new standing orders in place.

At the last meeting councillors voted in favour of reinstating the planning committee, because it was felt they were missing opportunities to consult on development in the town.

Coun Vaughan Hughes brought the motion to bring back committees, but it was amended by Coun William Parry to only set up a planning committee.

Coun Trevor Young said he disagreed with bringing back committees just yet, but that planning was an exception.

“It is frustrating coming to meetings only once a month but we have not made any poor or rushed decisions,” he said.

Coun Hughes said he had brought forward the motion out of ‘frustration’ at the growing list of items on the agenda.

But he said: “This meeting has been the best I have attended all year and the blood is flowing.”

Coun Lesley Rollings said: “I feel there is a tangible improvement in the way people are with each other. Officers and councillors are working together and understanding eachother.”

The new planning committee will meet on Thursday 29th March.
