Bassetlaw welcomes new youth mayor

Bassetlaw has welcomed a new ambassador for young people across the district following the election of its first youth mayor.

Holly Foster, from Harworth, was elected as Bassetlaw’s youth mayor and Malachi Carroll, from Worksop, was elected as the district’s deputy youth mayor following nominations and an online election.

Holly and Malachi will hold office for one year, attending events and performing duties that will recognise and celebrate the achievements and aspirations of young people across Bassetlaw as Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed.

The new youth mayor and the member of youth Parliament for Bassetlaw will also produce a bi-annual newsletter.

Holly said: “I’m excited to celebrate the achievements of young people whilst I’m Youth Mayor.

"It’s so important that the youth are recognised for their awesomeness.”

Malachi said: “I would like to thank everybody who has voted for me and I look forward to serving Bassetlaw as Deputy Youth Mayor for 2021-2022.”
