Bassetlaw Council chief proud to see new Worksop residential care home opened

This week saw the official opening of Priory Court, a brand new independent living centre that provides state-of-the-art accommodation for the over-60s, with the addition of extra care for those who need it.

If you live, work or travel around the Lowtown area of Worksop, you’ll no doubt have seen this impressive building taking shape over the last two years and, after seeing the finished version this week, I can confirm that it is just as impressive on the inside as it looks from the outside.

This new four-storey accommodation has been built by the Woodhead Group and features 52 apartments, as well as resident lounges, an activity room and even a hair salon.

In addition to the 15 flats for residents over the age of 60, extra care services are provided for up to 27 residents along with 10 assessment apartments that will help people to make the transition from hospital back into their own homes.

I’m proud to say that Bassetlaw Council is continuing to invest in social housing, along with its partners at Nottinghamshire County Council, and this type of accommodation will provide the joined up services that will allow elderly residents to live as independently as possible in their own homes, with the reassurance that care is onsite for them 24 hours a day if needed.

I have no doubts that the new and future residents will be very happy there.

Consultation on the draft local plan ended last week and I am grateful to everybody who took the time to respond and send their comments, all of which are now being considered and will help shape the next draft of the plan.

A report on the consultation and how feedback has impacted upon the plan will presented to a future extraordinary meeting of the council’s cabinet.

A more formal version of the plan will then be published in the summer.

Finally, the council will be marking Commonwealth Day, along with 53 other countries on Monday, March 9 by raising the Commonwealth flag in the Old Market Square outside Worksop Town Hall.

A short ceremony will take place and we will be joined by pupils from the Norbridge Academy School Choir.

The public are welcome to attend the event, which starts at 9.45am.
