Police hunt arsonists after three incidents

Police are hunting an arsonist after a pensioner’s car was torched in Kiveton Park.

At 2.50am on 15th November last year a man described as white, of stocky build with fair brown hair is seen to approach a blue Vauxhall Meriva on Norwood Crescent in Kiveton Park.

A police spokesman said: “He approached the vehicle from the front, sprayed an unknown accelerant on the windscreen and bonnet and lights it. The car sets alight immediately and the man runs away.”

The owner of the vehicle is a 71-year-old man from Norwood Crescent.

Police are also investigating a previous arson on a silver Vauxhall Safira on Tuesday 11 September 2012 belonging to the same victim.

Reports of a further arson on 26th July 2012 at Ash Grove, Kiveton Park - the home of the victims daughter - is also being investigated. The property was set alight by what detectives believe was an accelerant on the door.

Detectives are linking all three incidents and are appealing for help.
