Police arrest man on suspicion of attempted murder

DETECTIVES have made an arrest in connection with a Bawtry attack which left a 35-year-old man in a critical condition.

Officers are quizzing a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the assault, which happened just minutes into the New Year.

Iain Eldridge was with his girlfriend outside a hairdresser's shop in Station Road, Bawtry, near the Penny Farthing pub, just after midnight on Sunday 1st January, when he was assaulted.

Mr Eldridge, of Auckley, Doncaster, was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with a severe head injury, but later transferred to Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The arrested man is currently in police custody assisting officers with their inquiries.
