Police appeal for witnesses after thee vehicle crash closes M18

Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash that closed the M18 motorway this morning (Wednesday).

A white Mercedes Sprinter van was travelling on the northbound carriageway at around 2.15am between junction one and two, when it hit the back of an orange and white DAF van.

The Mercedes van has then overturned onto its side and hit the central reservation, blocking lanes two and three.

A white Renault van has then collided with the Mercedes van causing it to spin around into the carriageway before coming to rest on the hard shoulder, partly blocking lane one.

The Mercedes driver, a 26-year-old man from Doncaster was not injured. A 17-year-old male passenger from Doncaster sustained a dislocated hip and other injuries, and was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

The driver of the DAF van, a 44-year-old man from Doncaster suffered whiplash.

The driver of the Renault, a 44-year-old man from Doncaster was taken to the Rotherham Hospital. His passenger sustained whiplash.

The incident caused major disruption to rush-hour traffic this morning, and the northbound carriageway is expected to remain closed until later today.
