Police appeal after body found

Police investigating the death of a Tuxford man have issued an appeal to the public to help trace his last movements.

The body of Peter Nuttall was recovered from the River Trent at High Marnham on Saturday 15th October.

The 44-year-old was last seen at around 6pm on Wednesday 12th October and reported missing by relatives on Saturday 15th October.

His body was found by a member of the public later on Saturday and his car, a silver Renault Laguna, was located a short distance away in the car park of the Brownlow Arms pub.

A post-mortem examination concluded that he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers are preparing a report for the coroner’s office and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen Mr Nuttall’s car or someone at the river’s edge near the pub at any time after 6pm on Wednesday 12th October or during Thursday 13th October.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with his death, but they have issued an appeal to anyone who may have found a firearm on the river bank close to the pub between 12th and 15th October and not reported it to police.

Searches of the river bed have not yet located the weapon.

They would also like to hear from anyone who knew Mr Nuttall, who lived at Marnham Road, in Tuxford.

Anyone with information should telephone Notts Police on 01623 483020 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
