Police angling for fishing crime info

Anglers are being called on to help police as part of an initiative to clamp down on poaching.

Operation Traverse will see Nottinghamshire Police work with the Environment Agency and fishermen to target those illegally taking fish from rivers, as well as rod licence evasion.

The drive has been given the backing of police crime commissioner, Paddy Tipping, who said: “Anglers and members of the local communities who know the rivers and fishing spots well are ideally placed to keep us in the picture.

The Angling Trust’s Midlands regional enforcement manager, Kevin Pearson, said the support demonstrated to the angling rural communities that their concerns are being taken seriously.

Anglers wanting to report incidents can dial 101 for the police or 0800 807060 for the Environment Agency, quoting Traverse in their calls.
