Plans unveiled for £13m Discover Robin Hood attraction at Sherwood Forest

The authority says the Discover Robin Hood attraction will protect Sherwood Forest and provide a major boost for the local economy.

If Discovery Attractions receive planning consent by Newark & Sherwood Council, the new centre could be welcoming its first visitors by spring 2015.

The Discover Robin Hood project team have worked in a range of high-profile attractions from Alton Towers and Thorpe Park to the London Eye and Trentham Estate in Stoke.

Coun John Cottee, chairman for the culture committee at Notts County Council, said the new development will put Robin Hood’s legendary home back on the map.

“The County Council is committed to raising the profile of Robin and Sherwood locally, nationally and internationally whilst at the same time protecting ancient Sherwood Forest for future generations. This exciting venture will also create and sustain jobs for Nottinghamshire people,” he said.

“We hope to excite and educate visitors from all over the world. We’re delighted to be working with Discovery Attractions to build a world class attraction befitting our legendary hero and his forest home.”
