Person hit by train in Worksop dies at the scene

The person who was hit by a train near Worksop early this morning died at the scene, the police confirmed.

In a statement, British Transport Police said they were called to the line between Nottingham and Worksop at 6.59am on Friday (November 13) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

However, the police did not treat the incident as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

A spokesperson said: “Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.”

Earlier, East Midlands Railway tweeted that there was disruption on the Nottingham/Worksop route due to a person being struck by a train.

The incident has caused the line to be closed in both directions.

Rail users have been warned to expect delays in this area and advised to take alternative transport in place.
