Children’s film and TV favourites, Peppa Pig and Minions paid a special visit to children at Bassetlaw Hospital to deliver a sack full of Christmas presents.

The mascots, donated by Sports Nerf Bassetlaw, visited the children’s wards at Bassetlaw Hospital and Doncaster Royal Infirmary to meet the youngsters and bring some festive cheer.

Adele Mumby, champion ambassador for Bassetlaw Young People and Tony Mcmanus of Sports Nerf Bassetlaw, who organised the event, have delivered food vouchers and Christmas presents to disadvantaged families for the last five years.

Adele said: “This year we chose to do something for local children who are spending the run up to the holidays in hospital. We wanted to make their time on the wards a little brighter and it’s been great to see their faces light up.”

The mascots spent the morning on the ward having photographs with the children and wishing them all a Merry Christmas.

Mike Pinkerton, chief executive of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals, said: “The smiles on the children’s faces are the best medicine anyone could have at this time of year and we are very grateful to Tony and Adele for visiting the children’s ward and bringing the mascots along.”

David Graham of Action Hero Parties, also paid a visit, handing over a number of selection boxes for the children.

“Some of the stories are just heartbreaking,” David said.

“Seeing their smiles on their faces makes it worthwhile.”
