In a moving tribute six paramedics and an ambulance technician from Worksop Ambulance Station use sign language while mouthing the lyrics to the classic tune.

The song was originally written for Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel but is most well-known by Gerry and the Pacemakers.

However a new version sung by Tom - who has raised £29m for the NHS by walking laps of his garden - and singer Michael Ball was released last week.

Worksop paramedic Charlotte Maddison, 37, told how she came up with the idea as a way of thanking the public for their support - and to wish Tom a happy 100th birthday.

She said: “It was just a way of showing the community we’re grateful for everything people have done for us during these difficult times.”

Mum-of-four Charlotte said she and colleagues had been ‘inundated’ with gifts from members of the public, such as cosmetics, soap and food.

She said: “We’re so appreciative - the public has been absolutely fantastic.

“We’re all feeling the strain as there’s a greater need for the service with people self-isolating.

“Colleagues are off poorly with the virus and there’s the risk of taking it home to our families - the majority of us have children and vulnerable relatives.

“We do what we love but there is a risk we could take it home - so the appreciation we’ve received makes us feel a little bit better.”

Charlotte told how colleagues suggested they jointly sign the video - which has been viewed 21,000 times on social media - after she posted other signing videos to keep busy during lockdown.

She said: “It’s just a bit of fun but we all love the video and really enjoyed doing it - it’s a wonderful thing to sign.

“We’ve had so much lovely feedback from people in the signing community saying well done.”
