Special presents and a big surprise for lovely Lily, 100

Lily has shopped at the Worksop store, on Highgrounds Road, every Friday morning since it opened in 1993.

When the store heard that Lily was going to celebrate her 100th birthday they wanted to mark the occasion and thank her for loyalty at the same time.

Worksop Sainbury’s PR ambassador Michelle Holland said they wanted to honour Lily’s loyal custom.

“The staff here know Lily quite well as they see her every week so when we found out that it was going to be her birthday we wanted to do something special for her,” she said.

The store presented her with a birthday cake, chocolate and flowers.

Lily’s daughter Susan Standring takes her shopping at Sainsbury’s every week.

Susan said: “She was absolutely overwhelmed and had no idea. They told me the week before so I could make sure she was there for such a special occasion.”

Lily commemorated her special birthday with three days of celebrations which began with the presentation at Sainsbury’s and included a family meal and a party at the Grey Horses, Carlton, with 80 guests.
