Groups of young actors from five schools across the town each adapted a piece from the famous author’s books - including The BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox, Matilda, James And The Giant Peach and Revolting Rhymes.

During rehearsals at Worksop’s Acorn Theatre the children practiced their lines before full dress rehearsals.

Final performances came over two days in front of over 300 people groups from the different schools combining the five pieces into one long performance.

As a finale 84 children took to the stage to perform a song - with solos from Langold and St Augustine's Primary children.

Jessica Rose, a Year 3 teacher at Sparken Hill Academy, said the performance was ‘something quite special’.

She said: “The best part was seeing 84 children all on stage together singing and smiling.

“Children who had never performed before were all singing and smiling together.

“The organisation was challenging at times but the Acorn were fantastic - they were great at accommodating us and making sure we had what we needed.”
