Since lockdown was lifted at the beginning of July, the park has seen its online tickets selling out each week as families flock back to enjoy its fairy-tale themed rides and attractions.

Gaynor Corr, park owner, said: “We have been completely overwhelmed by the response to the park re-opening after three months of closure and now we can also celebrate the amazing achievement of being voted the UK’s fourth best theme park.

"We are absolutely thrilled and cannot thank our customers enough for their support and kind words.

Sundown Adventureland was started more than 50 years ago by Gaynor’s mother Audrey Rhodes, who at the age of 91 is still actively involved in managing the theme park.

Gaynor continued: “Since my mum opened the park in her back garden five decades ago, it has grown every year as we have invested in new areas and new rides to keep our visitors entertained.

"It is a magical place and we are so pleased and proud to have the support of so many loyal customers.

“Like so many leisure facilities, we have struggled this year and really weren’t sure how we were going to survive so to have such support as we re-open is very humbling.”

Deborah Griffin, park manager and Audrey Rhodes’ great granddaughter, added: “The wonderful feedback from our customers has been over-whelming and we are so pleased that even despite the coronavirus protections that we have put in place around the park, the families who visit us are still having such a lovely time and enjoying their valuable time together.

The park has re-opened more of its attractions this month, including the Rocky Mountain Railroad.

It is also planning its usual locals weekend and services weekend in September.

Gaynor said: “The show must go on, but s afety measures are our number one priority, so we are asking everyone to book tickets via the website before they arrive.”
