Prince Philip death cancels TV: Eastenders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale pulled as BBC One and ITV stop programmes

Soap fans looking for their fix from Eastenders, Coronation Street or Emmerdale will be disappointed as BBC and ITV have pulled the episodes due to air on Friday.

BBC One and BBC Two will see all programmes pulled for the rest of the day following the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

The BBC has taken the decision to cancel all its Friday shows for the rest of the day following the Duke of Edinburgh's death.

Shows including Masterchef, Gardener's World and Eastenders were due to be broadcast on Friday but now none of those will be shown.

ITV has cancelled Coronation Street and Emmerdale as well as A Touch Of Frost.

Channel 4 will broadcast Gogglebox and the Circle as planned.

UK TV channels including Dave and Gold will not broadcast any adverts on Friday afternoon, instead showing a banner telling people to switch to BBC News.

Philip, 99, was the longest-serving consort in British history.

The Duke and the Queen were married for more than 70 years and Philip dedicated decades of his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch’s side.

He officially retired from public engagements in the summer of 2017.

The Palace said in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

“Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

Bassetlaw District Council chairman, Councillor Deborah Merryweather, said: “I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"On behalf of the residents of Bassetlaw, I have conveyed our heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and her family.

“The Duke’s life has brought hope and happiness to his family, the British public, Members of the Commonwealth and people around the world."
