How the family behind a popular Worksop pub are keeping spirits up during lockdown

Last orders may have been called at pubs across the UK due to coronavirus, but the family behind one popular watering hole in Worksop are still doing their bit to lift spirits.

The Grafton family, who run The Innings pub on Prospect Precinct, have been showing their support for the NHS and bringing a smile to people’s faces in the process during the lockdown.

Millie Grafton, 16, has been dressing as a dinosaur each Thursday and stomping around to music while joining in the weekly round of applause for key workers.

Her family had supported the NHS long before the pandemic, raising money for Bassetlaw Hospital by holding charity events, but they have stepped up their game in the face of COVID-19.

Marstons Brewery made it possible for them to send crisps and sandwiches to the hospital after the lockdown was imposed, and the Graftons have put together a hamper and invited people to nominate the ‘superstar’ who deserves to win it.

Millie, her parents Theresa and Mark, and her older sister Abbie Thompson have more reason than most for backing the NHS as Millie’s big brother Adam Blower works for Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

Adam, who is 23 and lives in Rossington, Doncaster, is proud of what they’ve been doing.

“My family have done what they’ve done purely to make people smile in these dark times and to show their appreciation for all the key workers on the frontline,” he said.

“I‘m so proud of their actions, and it’s so heartwarming to witness for me as a key worker with the NHS.”
