The new building - which will replace the existing station on Eastgate built in 1963 - will self-generate up to 50 per cent of its energy needs.

Solar panels will be installed as well as roof-mounted air-sourced heat pumps - which capture warmth from the air outside even during freezing temperatures to heat the building.

The Sandy Lane site - easily accessible for the A60, the A57, Worksop and surrounding areas - is currently undergoing extensive regeneration.

If approved by the council the new 800 sqm two-storey fire station would include a three-storey training tower.

Current land owners and developers CEG will be extending the new Vesuvius Way road northward past ASDA’s delivery access to serve the fire station’s appliance bays and car park entrance.

Chief Fire Officer John Buckley said: “The new station at Worksop is part of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service’s long-term strategic plan to replace ageing and expensive-to-run accommodation for our firefighters.

“It will be built to the same high, energy-efficient standard as the other stations we have built in recent years and will make it easier and cheaper to run.”

Chair of the Fire Authority Councillor Michael Payne said: “I’m pleased that our plans for the new station are progressing.

“This investment demonstrates clear commitment to the communities of Bassetlaw as we build a station that will meet the current and future needs of the service.
