ELECTION: BNP chairman stands as Parliamentary candidate in Rotherham

The chairman of the British National Party is to stand as a general election candidate in Rotherham, it has been confirmed.

Adam Walker is listed as one of seven candidates for the Rotherham seat, defended by Labour’s Sarah Champion.

A spokesman for the BNP told The Star: “We can confirm that Adam Walker, our chairman, is standing in Rotherham.”

Nationally it has been said that the BNP is standing fewer candidates than it did in 2010.

Mr Walker is the only general election candidate from the party standing in South Yorkshire.

The other candidates standing in Rotherham include Jane Collins - Ukip, Sebastian Lowe - Conservative, Pat McLoughlin - TUSC, Janice Middleton - Liberal Democrats and Dean Walker - English Democrats.

In Wentworth and Dearne the candidates are:

Alan England - English Democrats

John Healey - Labour

Mike Hookem - Ukip

Michael Naughton - Conservative

Edwin Simpson - Liberal Democrat

In Rother Valley the candidates are:

Kevin Barron - Labour

Allen Cowles - Ukip

Sharon Pilling - English Democrats

Gareth Streeter -Conservative

Robert Teal - Liberal Democrats
