Devastated family of ‘strong, feisty’ grandma who died in Nottinghamshire crash pay tribute to her

Margaret McKenna, 69, was crossing Forest Road in Ollerton when she was in collision with a car at around 6.25pm on Thursday, January 16.

Mrs McKenna was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre where she was receiving treatment.

But sadly, she sadly died yesterday (Thursday, January 30).

Her family today said they would "miss her dearly" as they paid tribute to her.

They said: "Margaret grew up in the United Kingdom and emigrated to South Africa in 1973 with her husband, Dennis, and her daughter, Louise.

“They had two more children in South Africa, Natalie and Andrew. Margaret lived in South Africa for 33 years before returning to the United Kingdom but her heart was always in South Africa.

“Margaret was a strong, feisty woman with a wicked sense of humour which will be missed dearly.

“She loved her home and used her artistic talent to continuously redecorate. Her garden was her pride and joy and was a product of her naturally green fingers.

"Her children’s fondest memory of her was waiting for her to come home from work, where she would kick off her heels, put a record on, and they would have a mandatory dance off for half an hour before she cooked dinner.

"Margaret, your sister, three children, their partners and six grandchildren will miss you terribly. They know you are dancing in heaven to ‘The Twist’ making everyone laugh."

Mrs McKenna's family has also asked for privacy at this difficult time.

Officers investigating the collision have spoken to a woman in connection with the incident, but no arrests have been made at this stage.

They would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, and anyone who has dash-cam footage that may help with the investigation, ‘as soon as possible’.
