The former Co-op building had begun to deteriorate while it lay empty and the new flats will also provide much-needed affordable accommodation for couples and single people who want to live in the village.

Bolsover District Council, working with Action Housing, will now offer the flats to local people who need local properties through its housing register.

Bolsover District Council’s cabinet member for housing, councillor Sandra Peake, said: “Refurbishing this property has given the high street a huge lift and will give local people a decent, affordable home.

"At a time when we have such a high-demand for housing, it is more important than ever that we utilise empty properties and bring them back into use.

“We have developed an excellent working relationship with Action Housing, having been involved with a number of successful projects over the years and I look forward to seeing these apartments being rented out to people who deserve and need this type of accommodation."
