Bassetlaw pensioner paints 12-foot Spitfire on his garden shed

A Carlton in Lindrick man has painted a huge spitfire with a 12-foot wingspan on his garden shed.

Neil Plant, 73, created the awesome acrylic image ‘in remembrance of all those who gave their lives - god bless each and every one’.

The remarkable picture shows the iconic plane mid-flight to represent the RAF while two soldiers symbolise the Army and a nautical scene on the bottom left stands for the Navy.

Former HGV driver Neil, who marks Remembrance Day every year, told how the large mural took about four days to complete - ‘thanks to some good weather’.

He said: “I really enjoyed doing it and painted it free-hand - it wasn’t that difficult to do because I’m quite a regular painter.

“I wasn’t able to visit the cenotaph this year because of coronavirus - so it’s good to have this instead to remember our soldiers on Remembrance Day.”
