Amazon staff support children’s hospice near Worksop with big donation

The Amazon fulfilment centre in Sutton has donated £2,000 to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, near Worksop, which supports young patients and their families.

The North Anston-based hospice supports parents and carers through respite and short breaks, and helps brothers and sisters who may be feeling sad, lonely, or confused about the situation their family is experiencing, alongside music therapy, physiotherapy and end-of-life care and bereavement support for families facing the loss of a child.

Finance manager Victoria Wharmby, who nominated the charity, said: “The team at Bluebell Wood do incredible things for families in our community and beyond who face an impossibly difficult time in their lives.”

Site manager Vivek Khanka added: “The team is pleased to support the great work of Bluebell Wood. It is a lifeline to many families.”

Madeleine Oldale, head of communications at Bluebell Wood, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Amazon and the community spirited team at Sutton-in-Ashfield for this incredibly generous donation.

“We need to raise over £5m each year to be there for local families so every penny really does make a huge difference.”

At the end of last month, Bluebell Wood announced that it was having to temporarily close its clinical services due to a shortage of clinical staff.

However, a spokesperson at the hospice has said it is still able to offer all family support services including counselling, sibling support, music therapy, support groups for parents and carers and more.

They added that they are working hard to fill the positions and are continuing with their fundraising efforts.
