Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley makes a secret appearance in Worksop children's film

Absolutely Fabulous actress Joanna filmed a segment at her London home which was secretly included in the production created during Theatre Weeks at the town’s Acorn Theatre.

Craig Hawes, from the team that runs Theatre Weeks, said: “We knew Joanna would be perfect for a small cameo in the film, so we emailed her management explaining about the kids’ movie we were making and the part we’d love Joanna to play. When Joanna emailed us with the finished video a few days later, we were delighted. She said: ‘I’m so glad and happy to have been a part of your gorgeous project!”

The star, who plays a royal role in the film, was only revealed when the final cut was shown. Craig said: “When Joanna’s scene appeared on screen, the reaction from the kids was priceless. They couldn’t believe what they were seeing, and they jumped out of their seats shouting “No way!” It was an absolutely fabulous surprise for them, and they were completely bowled over that such a famous actress was in their own movie!”

Sixty performers contributed to REWIND – The Movie which replaced the annual Theatre Weeks programme of learning and performing a musical in five days, due to social distancing. Director Hayla Hawes said: “We decided to film a movie, packed with fun, dance, drama and topical twists. The kids have had a blast performing in front of the cameras, and the icing on the cake has been a guest appearance from the wonderful Joanna Lumley!”
