There’s no doubt where the emphasis lies this weekend as a host of Remembrance Sunday services and parades are held across the Mansfield and Ashfield area.
But either side of paying our respects, there is still lots of light-hearted fun to be had with family and friends. So we have compiled our usual list of things to do and places to go in the two districts and the wider Nottinghamshire area.
A surefire sign that Christmas is only just round the corner is Spectacle Of Light, the annual after-dark adventure at Rufford Abbey Country Park.
And if you hop on a Robin Hood Line train from next Tuesday, you will find out that Nottingham’s Christmas Market is under way.
Mansfield Museum hosts activities for the under-fives, while there’s more entertainment lined up at the town’s Palace Theatre too.
Elsewhere, horse-racing and dog-walking take centre stage, while you get the chance to explore places such as Sherwood Pines, Southwell and the intriguing Notts Maze.
Before you set off, please check the individual websites of each venue to find out opening times and admission prices.
Have a great weekend!

5. Chance to explore Southwell
The magnificent minster (pictured) is just one of the stopping-off points on a couple of quirky, heritage walks that enable you to discover the charming town of Southwell. Whether we consider it fun or a chore, walking the dog is part of everyday life for many of us. But did you know that Clumber Park, near Worksop, holds weekly dog-walking socials every Wednesday at 10 am? Simply go along, meet at Central Bark, between the walled kitchen garden and the cricket ground, enjoy a chat with fellow dog-walkers and also a cuppa and a bite to eat in the park's dog-friendly cafe. Nottingham's Christmas Market is always worth a visit, giving you the chance to do some festive shopping and soak up the Yuletide atmosphere. So regulars will be delighted to know that it opens on the city's Old Market Square next Tuesday and runs until New Year's Eve. Traditional chalet-style stalls offer a choice of gifts, crafts and speciality food, while The Wheel Of Nottingham enables you to see the sights from on high. Photo: Submitted
A day at the races is always full of excitement, especially when the action is over the jumps. So why not pop along to Southwell (Occupation Lane, Rolleston) on Friday when a card of seven races over fences and hurdles starts at 12.15 pm. Watch the action trackside, in the stands or from the comfort of one of the course's many bars and eateries. Photo: Submitted
