Pause for Thought

Remember, remember the fifth of November, the gun powder treason and plot; I know of no reason why the Gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

So begins the poem commemorating Guy Fawkes’ “gunpowder treason and plot” of November 5, 1605.
Four centuries later our skies will be lit up by the glow of fireworks (though I suspect the vast majority will not consciously be “remembering” Mr Fawkes).
St Paul, writing to the Christians in first Century Philippi, invited them – and us – to be as visible, in good-living, as stars – or fireworks – in the sky: … shine like stars in the world. (Philippians 2: 15)Geoffrey Clarke, The Crossing Church & Centre, Worksop.
